IRON HYDROXIDE
Iron ocher is a mud (iron hydroxide) produced by ferruginous particles in certain soil types, usually silty sands, getting in contact with oxygen, present in the French drains. This mud builds up on the drain’s walls, and overtime, blocks it completely. Sometimes, an iron bacterium may be present in the iron ocher’s development. More than the mud, this bacterium creates gelatinous build-ups which worsen de problem.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO ELIMINATE OR STOP IRON OCHER’S DEVELOPMENT?
Iron being naturally part of soils, it is extremely difficult, almost impossible, to remove it. On the other hand, an annual high pressure cleansing of the drains can help to maintain a proper flow. That’s the reason why, more and more properties are equipped with French drain cleaning chimney access. This is where we can step in by high pressure water drain cleaning. Without cleaning chimneys, we can also achieve this task from the catchment area inside the house. Any questions? Please call us. It will be a pleasure to give you more information.
IS IRON OCHER HEALTH THREATENING?
Iron ocher isn’t a danger itself. However, the mould caused by humidity where the French drain doesn’t operate properly can result in a poor air quality.
